Breastfeeding plays an important role in the health of both mothers and babies, with benefits that can last into childhood and adulthood. Although most mothers in Saudi Arabia start breastfeeding, many are unable to continue exclusive breastfeeding for the recommended first six months of life.

The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) was developed by the World Health Organization and UNICEF to support breastfeeding through evidence-based practices in maternity hospitals. While some hospitals in Saudi Arabia have adopted BFHI standards, there is limited local research examining how this initiative affects breastfeeding practices and infant health outcomes.

تلعب الرضاعة الطبيعية دورًا مهمًا في صحة الأم والطفل، وتمتد فوائدها إلى مراحل لاحقة من الطفولة والحياة. وعلى الرغم من أن معظم الأمهات في المملكة العربية السعودية يبدأن بالرضاعة الطبيعية بعد الولادة، إلا أن نسبة كبيرة منهن لا يتمكنّ من الاستمرار بالرضاعة الطبيعية الحصرية خلال الأشهر الستة الأولى الموصى بها

تم إطلاق مبادرة المستشفيات الصديقة للطفل من قبل منظمة الصحة العالمية ومنظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة (اليونيسف) لدعم الرضاعة الطبيعية من خلال تطبيق ممارسات قائمة على الدليل العلمي داخل مرافق رعاية الأمومة. ورغم اعتماد هذه المبادرة في عدد من المستشفيات في المملكة، لا تزال الدراسات المحلية التي تقيّم أثرها محدودة

Objective

هدف الدراسة

This study compares mothers and infants who received care in BFHI-accredited hospitals with those who received care in non-accredited hospitals in Saudi Arabia, during the first year after birth.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى مقارنة الأمهات والأطفال الذين تلقّوا الرعاية في مستشفيات معتمدة كمستشفيات صديقة للطفل مع أولئك الذين تلقّوا الرعاية في مستشفيات غير معتمدة، وذلك خلال السنة الأولى بعد الولادة في المملكة العربية السعودية.

Importance

اهمية الدراسة

The first year of life is a critical period for growth, development, and long-term health. Breastfeeding is one of the earliest and most influential experiences for newborns, providing essential nutrition and immune protection. The findings from this study may help strengthen breastfeeding support services and improve health outcomes for mothers and infants across the country on the effectiveness of BFHI practices

تُعد السنة الأولى من عمر الطفل مرحلة حاسمة للنمو والتطور والصحة على المدى الطويل. وتُعتبر الرضاعة الطبيعية من أوائل وأهم التجارب التي يمر بها الطفل، حيث توفر تغذية متكاملة ودعمًا مناعيًا فريدًا. من خلال هذه الدراسة، نأمل أن نساهم في تحسين جودة الرعاية الصحية المقدمة للأمهات وأطفالهن، ودعم القرارات الصحية المبنية على الدليل العلمي حول فعالية مبادرة المستشفيات الصديقة للطفل في المملكة
